Immigrant from Hong kong to Canada , lived with an abusive father, failed grade 3, survived two abusive partners and now one of Canada’s prominent politician , that is Olivia Chow Member of parliament. She is the widow of former NDP and Opposition Leader Jack Layton.
Her memoir “my journey ” book, officially launched in Toronto, captured important milestones in her life in Canada since the time she came from Hong Kong at age 13. Olivia was interviewed by Sook-Yin Lee who played her character at the movie Jack .

At the Toronto book launching attended by hundreds including her mother, Olivia recalled when her husband Jack died , they have lived life to the fullest .
“When jack passed away we lived it to the fullest and it feels an eternity”
“No pain no gain ” is my philosophy in life she said
The 315 pages memoir chronicled Olivia’s personal and political life .
The 57 year old Olivia Chow who disclosed that she sleeps on a water bed is expected to join Toronto’s mayoral race against the most controversial incumbent mayor Rob Ford , but she has not announced any plans of running to be the mayor of Toronto as yet .
Fond of swimming, best known for community activism, Olivia wants to see greater involvement of Canadians in politics.
