The 118th commemoration of the victory of Adwa and Ethiopian Canadian Heritage Month was celebrated in Toronto
Hundreds of the Ethiopian community members in Toronto gathered at the cultural event hosted by Ethiopian Association in GTA.
President of the Association Wossen Beyene welcomed dignitaries and community members . He stressed the need to celebrate ones history culture and identity . He praised the victory of Adwa as a milestone for African History.
Wossen called upon community members to fully participate in the activities of the Ethiopian Association .
The Ethiopian Canadian community in Canada are contributing to the cultural fabrics of Canada according to the members of parliamentarians.
The renowned Ethiopian former Fitness trainer Girma Cheru called on the attendees to stay united putting all differences aside as exemplified by the leadership of Emperor Minilik.
Short plays about the wise tactics of Empress Tayetu and battle of Adwa , poems, and cultural dances were presented by sebseb belu cultural group and Haddis Nigat Arts forum
It is to be recalled that mayor Rob Ford of Toronto proclaimed March ad the Ethiopian Heritage Month Heritage month.
Ethiopia’s victory over the Italian colonizing forces on March 1st 1896 at the battle of Adwa has maintained Ethiopia’s sovereignty. Ethiopia remains a country that has never been colonized .It has been a source of pride for all black people around the world.
