Canada’s Defense Minister and Minister of Multiculturalism, Jason Kenney, expressed his deep sorrow and sadness on the beheading of Ethiopian Christians in Libya.
“Canada stands in solidarity with Ethiopian people,The Ethiopian Church and the families of those who were killed at this difficult time and we pray for the consolation of their families “Jason remarks.
In an exclusive interview with ethiofidel.com, he expressed his support to a role for Canada to be of assistant to Ethiopia’s refugees.
“We are always open to helping out through a large resettlement program from East Africa” says Kenny.
Kenney, who also attended a memorial service at St. Mary Cathedral Ethiopian Orthodox Church in Toronto this morning, expressed his deep condolences to the people of Ethiopia on behalf of the Canadian government.
The prayer and memorial at St. Mary Church was led by the Head Priest, and Administrator of Ethiopian Orthodox church in Canada, Reverend Misale Engida. The service was attended by hundreds of Ethiopians who expressed their grief.
Kenny, in the interview, acknowledged the many contributions people of Ethiopian descent have made to Canada’s fabric of citizenship.
He encouraged the community, and particularly the youth, to be engaged in Canada’s socio-political activities and use it as a vehicle to advocate for societies’ better ideals.
