Almost every province has a different name for the holiday celebrated in Canada at the first Monday of Augest .
This Monday Toronto celebrates civic Holiday as it is called in Toronto, Simcoe Day. It is renamed as Simcoe Day in 1969 honouring the first lieutenant Governor of Upper Canada, John Garves Simcoe,as well as the coming on to effect of the act against Slavery in Ontario.
The celebration at Fort York marked the day in celebration of Simocoe’s legacy as one who contributed to the abolishment of slavery and establishment of the rule of law .
