Ethiopians and friends of Ethiopia run bare feet. Ethiopian studies a the University of Toronto close to being a reality
On Saturday ,Ethiopians and friends of Ethiopia came to The Varsity Stadium down town Toronto to participate in a run. The event , “Bikila bare foot challenge” was organised to commemorate the 84th birthday of the Ethiopian marathon hero Abebe Bikila and raise funds for the establishment of Ethiopic studies in Toronto.
A $50,000 Cheque donated for the same cause by The Grammy winner artist Abel Tesfaye – The Weeknd was presented to the university.
The one time World Marathon record holder for 10 years , Belayneh Densamo kicked of all the various athletic competitions on the occasion .
Inspired by Abebe Bikila as a child , Densemo is delighted to see an Ethiopian studies opening up in the university of Toronto. In an exclusive interview with ethiofidel.com , Densamo wished all the best for the Ethiopian Olympics squad in Rio – Brazil.

Organisers of the event are hoping to raise more funds towards the establishment of ethiopic studies which was initiated by Professor Micheal Gervers of the University of Toronto. As part of the initiative,courses About Geez (ancient Ethiopian language will soon be provided at the Toronto University.
