Community leaders recognized in Toronto .
The Black community leaders have been recognozed at African Canadian Literacy expo event held at the Jamaican canadian Association (JCA).
The long time community leader and the former CEO of the Jamaican Canadian Association Everton Gordon was recognized for his leadership and activisim in the Black community in Canada.
The organizors praised Mr. Gordon for his relentless suppprt of the Black community and astute mentorship of Black youth .
For Everton, the Black community in Canada has been at crossroads with multiples of challanges . He explained that his involvement in mental health and justice program at a downtowm Toronto organization will pave ways for him to contribute more
Robert Small , Founder of Legacy Enterprises and the creator of the Official Black History Month poster. And Dalton Higgins, Author of six books and Journalist were recognized
On the occassion, the Toronto west end hall of JCA saw an exhibit of Black Literacy.
Books by Black authors of various genre were in display .
Minster of children and youth services Micheal Couteau recited his peraonal experience of literary in emphasizing the need to strengthn literacy among communities .
In a proactive move praised by many participants, the minister gestured the establishment of a community advisory to establish book clubs.
