The famous Ethiopian poet and Philosopher Solomon Deressa passed away.
A poet, professor, journalist and Philosopher, Solomon has been living in the states and thought at the University of Minnesota. Well known for his philosophical poems, Solomon is remembered as a giant figure in the Ethiopian literature.
Deressa passed away at 80, after an extended illness while leaving a great legacy of his literary works to the generation to come.
His brother Ambassador Birhanu Deressa told the Voice of America (VOA) that Solomon passed away surrounded by his family members. The author published three books in his life time that received much larger acclaims among Ethiopians and beyond.
Solomon was born in the Wollega district of Ethiopia.
Solomon’s family asked for the flower purchases to be directed to the University of Minnesota for the establishment of the University of Minnesota Foundation towards the establishment of the Solomon Deressa Memorial Scholarship.
