If you are a student in Ontario classrooms , you are not allowed to use your cell phone in class rooms as of today . The Ontario government introduced the cell phone ban in class rooms earlier this year but it comes to effect as of today November 4, 2019 .
In a statement sent from the ministry of Education to ethiofidel.com, The Ontario Education Minister Stephen Lecce, said the cell phone ban will help students focus . “Our government heard clearly from parents and educators about the growing challenge related to distracted students in the classroom.When in class, students should be focused on their studies and not on social media.” says Lecce.
97% of parents, students and teachers who participated in the 2018 education reform consultations said that cell phone use should be restricted in some way.
The statement indicated that exceptions will be made if cell phones are required for health and medical purposes, to support special education needs, or for educational purposes as directed by an an educator.
