The Empowering Ethiopian and Eritrean Communities Wellness and Professional Networking Symposium Conducted in Toronto.
The symposium at Centre for Social Innovation was organized by Ethio-Can Bridge The Gap.
The event had a well respected community organizer, Amanuel melles as a key note speaker .
The long serving physician Dr. Yemisrach Hailemeskel was also the guest speaker for the event.
Ethio-Can Bridge The Gap is a mental health and wellness initiative that has spent the last two years actively engaging with the Ethiopian and Eritrean communities in Toronto and the GTA online to understand the gaps that exist in accessing culturally anchored mental health support services. Its mission is to promote awareness, educate and to bridge the gap between service providers and the community.
According to a press release sent to ethiofidel, Empowering Ethiopian and Eritrean Communities Wellness and Professional Networking Symposium is designed to empower the Ethiopian and Eritrean communities in Toronto and the surrounding area to take an active role in their mental wellbeing by directly connecting healthcare providers with community members. It was also aimed at connecting community service providers, non-profit organizations and small businesses that offer support and resources to the wider community. The forum was orgnized to connect professionals and mentors from the community to new graduates, newcomers and those looking to further their careers. At the event there were,
- over 22 key community organizations taking part to promote their services and programs to our community members.
- Informative panel discussions addressing the impact of mental health in the communities took place.
- Over 50 professionals across the sector took part during the networking segment of the event.
- Kids from Toronto and Peel District School Board International Language Program put on a fantastic show that highlighted their diverse cultural heritage.
