Eritrean Canadian film maker and programmer Hannah Yohannes has been recognized as Canada’s Top 100 Black Women to Watch in 2022 by Canada International Black Women Excellence( CIBWE).
I interviwed her for ethiofidel.com . Here are the five questions with Johnny segment
Ethofidel : Congratulations on your recent acknowledgement and selection as the Canada’s Top 100 Black Women to Watch in 2022 . Tell us about yourself.
Hannah: My name is Hannah Yohannes and I’m a proud mom, filmmaker and programmer.
Ethofidel : This is a great recognition as Canada’s Top 100 Black Women to Watch in 2022. What was the recognition about and how did you get selected?
Hannah : Thank you! I was selected as one of Canada’s Top 100 Black Women to Watch for 2022 by the Canadian International Black Women Excellence (CIBWE). I was nominated by my dear friend who always celebrates me and wants to highlight the important work I do.
Ethofidel : I saw your social media reactions after the recognition. You were very humble in accepting the recognition and attributed the celebration to your children and community. Tell me about that sentiment.
Hannah : I always approach recognition with gratitude, happiness and humility because it gives me a moment to appreciate and reflect on what God has done for me and remember the collective support from my amazing tribe that have supported me in my career.
Ethofidel : You took part in quite a number of film productions. What does your filming portfolio look like in short?
Hannah : My film and tv portfolio extends from narrative storytelling to unscripted productions. I have created several shorts called Kiin with creator Muna Deria, The Crown with composer Kaia Kater, and most recently Manic State with writer Mona Hersi.
Ethofidel : Any message for aspiring community members in all disciplines in Canada?
Hannah: Be a lifelong learner – ask questions and stay curious.
