Internationally acclaimed musician, The Weeknd, has teamed up with Blue Bottle Coffee to introduce a new coffee line called “Samra Origins.” The top-quality coffee is named after the artist’s mother, Samra Tesfaye, who is of Ethiopian origin. The launch of this new coffee line is scheduled for May 9 and aims to pay homage to Ethiopia’s longstanding coffee culture and honor the Weeknd’s Ethiopian heritage.

ሳምራ ኦሪጅንስ የተሰኘው በድምፃዊ ዘዊኬንድ እናት የተሰየመውን ይህን ቡና ያቀረበው ለኢትዬጽያዊ ባህል እና ለወላጅ እናቱ ያለውን አክብሮት ለመግለፅ በተያያዘም ከ ገቢው ላይ በረሀብ ለተጎዱ ወገኖች ለመርዳት ነው ብሏል ሳምራ ኦሪጅንስ ቡናን ያቀረበው ብሉ ብትል ከተባለ የቡና አቅራቢ ድርጅት ጋር በጋራ መሆኑን በድረ ገፁ ላይ አስፍሯል ።
The Weeknd has stated on his website that Ethiopian culture is an integral part of his identity and that he is proud to collaborate with Blue Bottle Coffee to shed light on Ethiopia’s traditions, values, and coffee. As a child, the artist witnessed his mother’s performance of Buna Tetu, a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony, which instilled in him a sense of community and a commitment to honoring his roots.
According to his website, The weekend wants to honor his mother and pay homage to Ethiopia’s long standing Coffee tradition .
“Ethiopian culture is an important part of my identity and I’m proud to work alongside the Blue Bottle Coffee team to shine a light on Ethiopian traditions, values, and of course, coffee,” he said in a statement.
“Growing up, I watched my mother perform Buna Tetu, a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony. This sensory experience helped shape my understanding of community and taught me to always honor my roots”
The launch of the new Coffee line is also aimed at supporting people facing hunger In Ethiopia and around the world through World Food Program.
The launch of Samra Origins coffee is also intended to support individuals experiencing hunger in Ethiopia and across the globe through the World Food Program.
Few years back, The Weeknd donated $1 Million to WFP to help victims of conflict in Ethiopia.
