Legendary Ethiopian Singer Hirut Bekelle Passes Away at 80
Hirut Bekelle, a renowned Ethiopian singer and music icon of the 1960s, passed away on Friday at the age of 80. Born in 1942, in Addis Ababa to Lieutenant Bekele Kinfe and Mrs. Tenagnework Mekonnen, Hirut’s remarkable musical journey captivated the hearts of many and left an indelible mark on Ethiopia’s music scene.
Hirut’s passion for music blossomed at a young age, as she would sing for her closest friends around the house. Encouraged by their praise, she decided to pursue music professionally, despite the negative connotations associated with being a musician in Ethiopia during that time. Her path was filled with secrecy and discretion to turn her dreams into reality.
At the age of 16, Hirut was selected by the Army Force Orchestra, where her debut song, “Ye-Hare Shererit” (Silk Spider), released in 1958, became an instant hit and marked the beginning of her musical journey.
she then officially became a member of the Police Orchestra. Hirut remained with the Police Orchestra for an impressive 35 years until her retirement from the entertainment industry in 1994.
Throughout her career, Hirut collaborated with notable artists such as Mesfin Haile, Alemayehu Eshete, Tadele Bekele, Melkamu Tebeje, Mahmoud Ahmed, Theodros Tadesse, and Kassahun Germamo. She lent her remarkable vocals to esteemed bands including Shebele Band, Walias Band, Dahlak Band, and Roha Band.
In 1994, Hirut bid farewell to the entertainment industry and embarked on a spiritual journey, devoting herself to Christian ministry through which she released three gospel albums.
Ethiopia’s prominent artist Tewodros Kassahun A.K.A Teddy Afro paid tribute to HIrut Bekele as an icon in Ethiopia’s modern music.
ታዋቂዋ ኢትዮጵያዊት ድምጻዊ ሂሩት በቀለ ከዚ አለም በሞት ተለየች፡፡ ባደረባት ሕመም ምክንያት በአገር ውስጥና በውጭ በሕክምና ስትረዳ ቆይታ በ80 ዓመቷ ማረፉዋ ተዘግቧል ፡፡
ሂሩት በቀለ ከ50ዎቹ መጀመሪያ እስከ 80ዎቹ መጨረሻ ድረስ በኢትዮጵያ የሙዚቃ ኢንደስትሪ ውስጥ ስማቸው ከገነነ የ ሲት አርቲስቶች መካከል በ ዋናነት የምትጠቀስ ነበረች ፡፡
ከትውልድ ትውልድ በ ቅብብሎሽ የተሸጋገሩት ዘፈኖቿም እስካሁን ተወዳጅ ናቸው ፡፡ ሂሩት የግጥምና የዜማ ደራሲም ነበረች :: በአዲስ አበባ ከተማ ቀበና አካባቢ የተወለደችው ሂሩት ገ ና በልጅነት ለ ትምህርት ቤት ጓደኞቿ በ ማንጎራጊር ነበር ሙዚቃ የጀመረችው ከዚያም በ ምድር ጦር ሙዚቃ ክፍል ተቀጥራለች ፡፡ በተጫወተችው “የሐር ሸረሪት” በተሰኘው ዜማ በህዝቡ ዘንድ ከፍተኛ አድናቆትንና ተቀባይነትን አገኘች:: ይሄኔ ነበር የፖሊስ ሰራዊት ኦርኬስትራ ክፍል አይኑን የጣለባት። ጥሎባትም አልቀረ በ 1952 ዓ.ም. ላይ ከምድር ጦር ሙዚቃ ክፍል እውቅና ውጪ የፖሊስ ሰራዊት ኦርኬስትራ ሂሩትን በመጥለፍ በጊዜው ኮልፌ ፈጥኖ ደራሽ ወደሚባለው የፖሊስ ማሰልጠኛ ካምፕ በመውሰድ በልዩ ኮማንዶዎች የ24 ሰዓት ጥበቃ እየተደረገላት ከወር በላይ ተደብቃ ቆየች:: ከአንድ ወር ያላሰለሰ ጥረት በኃላ የምድር ጦር ሙዚቃ ክፍል ፍለጋውን ለማቋረጥ በመገደዱ: የፖሊስ ሰራዊት ኦርኬስትራ ክፍል ሂሩትን በይፋ በቋሚነት የሠራዊቱ የሙዚቃ ክፍል አባል አድርጎ ቀጠራት በዚያም ለ 35 አመታት ማገልገሏ በ ህይወት ታሪኳ ላይ ተጠቅሷል፡፡ ከ 200 በላይ ሙዚቃ ተጫውታለች 14 ያህል አልበሞችን አሳትማለች
ሂሩት ከብዙ ስመጥር ድምፃውያን ጋር በመሆን ስራዋን ለህዝብ አቅርባለች: ከነዚህም መሀከል ማህሙድ አህመድ አለማየሁ እሸቴ: ቴዎድሮስ ታደሰ: መልካሙ ተበጀ: ታደለ በቀለ: መስፍን ሀይሌ: ካሳሁን ገርማሞና ሌሎችም ይገኙበታል።
ከሙዚቃው አለም ራሷን ካገለለችበት ወቅት አንስቶም በ ወንጊላዊት ቢተክርስቲያን ውስጥ በዘማሪነት ስታገለገል እንደቆየች ይታወቃል ፡፡ሶስት የ መዝሙር አልበሞችንም አቅርባለች ፡፡
ሂሩት በቀለ የ7 ልጆች እናት፣ የ10 ልጆች አያት እና የ7 ልጆች ቅድመ አያት ነበረች።
