Ethiopian Athletes Dominate Hamilton 10K Race on Canada Day

The Canada Day 10K race held at Confederation Beach Park in Hamilton saw great performances by Ethiopian athletes, with Bezu Worku leading the charge. Worku, an elite marathoner with a personal best of 2 hours and 5 minutes, held the top spot in the 10K race, finishing in an impressive 33 minutes.

Worku, who has participated in major marathons such as New York, London, Paris, Berlin, Houston, Ottawa, and Tokyo, demonstrated his elite endurance and skills.

The event also highlighted the talents of other Ethiopian runners, with Mismak Teame, Yusuf Abdulmenan, and Teklemichael Abebe Sahlemariam( Tekle)  securing second-place finishes in their respective age groups. Their remarkable performances underscored the dominance of Ethiopian athletes in distance running.

The Canada Day race was more than just a competition; it was a community-driven effort to support the McMaster Children’s Hospital. Proceeds from the Kids 1KM race were dedicated to the hospital, aiming to make a significant impact on the lives of children and their families.

Event participants had the option to join in-person at Edgewater Pavilion, Confederation Beach Park, or virtually from anywhere between June 1st and July 8th, 2024. The family-friendly event featured a 1KM kids race and a live music performance by award-winning musician Anthony Tullo, known for his Rock/Alternative Country hits.

Race highlights included a unique finisher medal that doubles as a Canada Day bracelet and an exclusive Canada Day tank top, included in every race kit.

For those who missed the in-person experience, the virtual race allowed participants to complete their runs at their own pace, ensuring everyone could contribute to the noble cause from anywhere in the world.
