In a statement Elda gave to ethiofidel, she expressed her gratitude and excitement. She wrote, “I am incredibly honored and grateful to be selected as a recipient of the 2024 Beland Honderich Award. This prestigious scholarship is not only a testament to my hard work and dedication but also a tremendous opportunity that will significantly impact my academic journey.”

Elda further elaborated on the profound impact the scholarship will have in alleviating the financial burdens associated with pursuing higher education. Coming from a single-parent household, the scholarship will ease the burden of tuition fees, textbooks, and other educational expenses, allowing her to focus on her academic pursuits without financial stress.

Elda’s leadership qualities have been evident throughout her high school years. She served as president of the Habesha Club and vice president of the United Sisters of Color, roles that have prepared her to take on significant responsibilities and make impactful contributions at the university level and beyond. “Receiving the Beland Honderich Award is recognition of my resilience and leadership qualities, boosting my confidence and motivating me to strive for excellence,” she wrote.

The MIB Co-op program’s structured learning and practical experience components are appealing to Elda, as they will provide invaluable work experience and allow her to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world settings. She is eager to develop essential skills that will serve her well in her future career. “With the support of this award, I am committed to promoting cultural diversity and inclusivity, and I am confident that I can achieve my dream of making significant contributions to the field of international business while making my mother proud,” Elda shared.

Ethiofidel congratulates Elda  and wishes her success as she starts her new chapter at the University of Toronto.
