Mekdes Tekalign Gerefa(MSW) of Toronto has been awarded the Black Staff Excellence Award from the City of Toronto Shelter and support Services for her commitment to conforonting Anti-Black Racisim.
Mekdes is a Supervisor in the Community and Social Services for the City of Toronto. According to notes on Ethio-Canadian Club House by Zerihun Addisu, Mekdese’s team work on addressing crucial social issues and providing policy interventions as well as programs focusing on housing, homelessness, harm reduction, addiction, income security, mental health, emergency shelter and community health care services earned her the recognition.
The award is a testimony for Mekdese’s hardwork, commitment to community service, strong leadership and dedication for excellence in the workplace.
