Experts from Addis Ababa University informed national TV that while the earthquake occurred outside the capital, they urged residents to remain cautious. The earthquake hit at a depth of about 10 kilometers (6 miles), and shaking was likely experienced across central Ethiopia. Fortunately, there have been no initial reports of damage or casualties, and significant destruction is not anticipated. However, the experts told Ethiopian TV that it may take several hours for authorities to conduct thorough damage assessments, particularly in remote areas.
