Ethiopian runners had an extraordinary day at the 2024 Toronto Waterfront Marathon, claiming victory in both the men’s and women’s events, and further cementing Ethiopia’s status as a powerhouse in marathon running.
In the women’s race, Waganesh Mekasha of Ethiopia set a new course record, crossing the finish line in 2:20:44. This triumph marks her second major marathon win on Canadian soil, following her recent victory at the Ottawa Marathon.
Fellow Ethiopians Roza Dereje and Afera Godfay completed a podium sweep, finishing in second and third place respectively, underscoring Ethiopia’s dominance in the women’s marathon.
The men’s marathon saw another Ethiopian success, with Mulugeta Uma securing first place in a time of 2:07:16. Kenyan runners Dominic Ngeno and Noah Kipkemboi finished second and third, while Ethiopia’s Hailu Zewdu came in fourth, just missing the podium.
Ethiopians in Toronto expressed their joy and pride in their country’s athletes, with many stating their excitement to Ethiofidel after witnessing the strong performance at the marathon.
As in every year, members of People to People Canada, a charitable organization in Toronto also participated in the Toronto Waterfront Marathon to raise money for the cause of the organization .

በሴቶቹ ውድድር ኢትዮጵያዊቷ ዋጋነሽ መካሻ 2፡20፡44 በሆነ ሰአት በማጠናቀቅ አዲስ የኮርስ ሪከርድ አስመዝግባለች። ይህ ድል በቅርቡ በኦታዋ ማራቶን ያስመዘገበችውን ድል ተከትሎ በካናዳ ምድር ለሁለተኛ ጊዜ ያሸነፈችበትን ታላቅ የማራቶን ድል ነው።
ኢትዮጵያዊያኑ ሮዛ ደረጀ እና አፈራ ጎድፋይ በሁለተኛ እና በሶስተኛ ደረጃ በማጠናቀቅ በሴቶች ማራቶን የኢትዮጵያን የበላይነት አሳይተዋል።
በወንዶች ማራቶን ሌላ ኢትዮጵያዊ ድል አስመዝግቧል ሙሉጌታ ኡማ 2፡07፡16 በሆነ ሰአት አንደኛ ሆኖ አጠናቋል። ኬንያዊያኑ ሯጮች ዶሚኒክ ንጌኖ እና ኖህ ኪፕኬምቦይ ሁለተኛ እና ሶስተኛ ሲሆኑ ኢትዮጵያዊው ሀይሉ ዘውዱ በ አራተኛነት ጨርሷል ፡፡
በቶሮንቶ የሚኖሩ ኢትዮጵያውያን በሀገራቸው አትሌቶች ውጤት ደስታ እና ኩራት እንደተሰማቸው ለኢትዮፊደል ገልጸዋል በቶሮንቶ የሚገኘው የ ፒፕል ቶ ፒፕል ድርጅት አባላትም በውድድሩ ተሳትፈዋል::
