It has been 50 years since the white and red flag of Canada with a maple leaf sign on top has been officially inaugurated as the Canadian flag.
Hundreds gather in down town Toronto to observe the day
They form a human flag on center ice of the Mattay Athletic center (formerly maple leaf Garden )
The renowned Canadian photographer Edward Burtynsky captured the ceremony. According to the invitation sent to ethiofidel by the lieutenant Governor of Ontario , the photos will be the focal points of the exhibition at the LG’s suite to celebrate 150th anniversary of Canada
Speaking at the occasion of a citizenship ceremony on the same day , LG Elizabeth Dowdswell called the Canadian flag a “beloved national symbol”and welcomed the new Canadians in to the” national dream of Canada.”
Minister of Citizenship and immigration Canada , Chris Alexander also said the Canadian flag ls loved around the world because of what Canada is contributing to world peace and economic development .
Chris has been echoed by the former mayor of Missisaga Hazel, the former GG of Canada Adrian Clarkson and the recipient of GG award Dr. Gezahegn Wrdofa . In an exclusive interview with ethiofidel. com, all of them agreed Canadian flag carries a meaning of diversity, strength and peace .
After a long debate , the maple leaf symboled Canadian flag was raised at parliament Hill on February 15 1965.
