Cab drivers are holding protests across Toronto defying the unlicensed competition from Uber X
Uber, a ride share service, has been introduced to Toronto recently. But it has been largely contested by Taxi drivers. Uber-X is30-40% cheaper than the regular taxi .However, there have been several safety concerns.
For the Taxi drivers , Uber is taking their jobs and is an unfair competitier . They need Uber to work under the same By law as Taxis . ” Same Ride Same Rules” reads a sign by one of the protestors. The recent poll shows majority of Toronto residents need Uber to be regulated.
Today’S protest created a heavy traffic jam in the city
According to CBC news, one man was dragged to 20 meters by protestors after he was identified as uber driver .
The city Council of Toronto decided to lower the taxi fare by $1 and to regulate Uber recently.
