The Sankofa principle for Black History Month in Canada

Every year in February Canadians celebrate Black History Month .This year as well several events are taking place across Canada to celebrate Black History .

The theme of Black History Month is “Canadians of African Descent: Going forward, Guided by the past.”

The poster from Canadian Heritage shows the Sankofa Bird . The Sankofa bird in Western Africa signifies Feet forward, head turned backward. The Sankofa bird reflects on the past to build a successful future.

In his black history month message Canadian prime Minister Justin Trudeau says “This is a time to learn more about the important role that people of African descent have played in our history. Time and again, Black Canadians have demonstrated courage, resilience, and leadership when faced with adversity.”

Trudeau also reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to fight racism in all its forma .
