Adwa Victory A symbol of Ethiopian Unity and African Independence

Ethiopians across the world celebrate the victory of Adwa . The battle where Ethiopians defeated Italian colonizing forces in 1896. Ethiopians remember this history with pride as a nation that has never been colonized.

This year Ethiopians across the world celebrated the day with a heightened nationalism, a reflection of their history and determination to move forward towards a better Ethiopia.

The celebration in Addis Ababa infornt of Emperor Minilk’s statue was colorful and saw a flood of people from all parts of the country .

Major officials of the country including prime minister Abiy Ahmed used the occassion to call up on the people of Ethiopia to work in unison especially during the time the country is faced with political transition internally and diplomatic pressure around the use of the Nile water .

Ethiopian Canadians also celebrated Adwa Victory in Toronto . They gathered in a downtown Toronto hall to celebrate the victory of Ethiopia over the colonial forces of Italy in 1896.

Organized by the Ethiopian Association in GTA, the celebration was marked by various speeches and entertainments.
