The Ontario Government is urging the public to stay home to control the spread of COVID-19. The province has just released a new campaign called Stay home On with a hash tag of #StayhomeON
Please see the statement from Lisa MacLeod, Minister of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries and a video from the Canadian TV personality Rick Mercer .
In safer times my job is to encourage people to travel our province, attend music festivals and to cheer on our sports teams.
But now is not the time. Right now, we all have the responsibility to Stay Home, Stay Safe, and Save Lives.
That’s why my Ministry, with support from our agency Destination Ontario, has pivoted our tourism, culture and sport operations to coordinate an organic social media campaign that kicks off today using the hashtag #StayHomeON. Key ministry partners, including leading athletes, artists, musicians, and other online influencers like Rick Mercer, the Toronto Raptors and the Ottawa Senators are helping to spread the word. So, too, are municipal leaders from across Ontario like John Tory, Drew Dilkins and Jim Diodati.
While we cannot join fans in stands – we can cheer from home.
We cannot tour the ROM or Science North – but we can explore their digital collections.
We cannot visit a theatre right now, yet we can watch a made in Ontario production from home.
By all of us working together, we will be able to experience and explore all that our province has to offer once again. In the meantime, I am asking all Ontarians to help stop the spread of COVID-19 by sharing #StayHomeON content online.
Stay Home. Stay Safe. Save Lives!
