A Documentary on Work place Anti Black Racisim Screened in Toronto.
“Working While Black ” is a 90 minutes documentary that portrays the work place anti Black racism in Canada .
Produced by TAIBU community Health Center, the documentary featured the experiences of Black Canadians with work place racisim.
Their powerful testimonies, often charged with authentic emotional upheavals, captivated the audience.
“The workplace is a hostile environment for Black communities ” said one of the person pofiled in the documentary .
TAIBU’s Executive Director and also the Executive Producer of the film Liben Gebremikael explained that the documentry, funded by the Ministry of Canadian Heritage was designed to show the issues faced by Black communities at work places and serve as a tool to open a dialogue around what needs to be done .
“It helps us to validate our own pain and experiences and find support around us” Liben says.
In a panel discussion following the screening, a line up of audiences confirmed that the documentary chronicled their own experiences.They said they could relate to the issues covered by the film.
For some in the audience, the documentary helped them understand ways how to address anti black racism at a work place .
Participants wanted to see the documentary to reach out to a larger audience .TAIBU’s Director , Liben, promised other screenings in future
