Kidy Foundation’s Inaugural Fundraiser in Toronto  Aims to Prevent Vehicle collision in  Ethiopia

Toronto, Canada – The Kidy Foundation, a charitable organization dedicated to supporting victims vehicle collisions in Ethiopia and promoting vehicle safety, held its first annual fundraiser event in Toronto on Saturday evening. The event drew a large crowd of supporters, donors, and community members, all gathered to show their solidarity and contribute to the foundation’s noble cause.

One of the highlights of the evening was the auction, where various items were up for bid to raise funds for the foundation’s initiatives. Among the auction items was a round-trip ticket to Ethiopia. Bidders eagerly competed for the opportunity to embark on a journey to the vibrant and culturally rich nation.

Elizabhet Woldemariam, the founder and chair of the Kidy Foundation shared her personal motivation for establishing the organization. She recounted the tragic loss of her own sister, Kidest, in a devastating vehicle collisions in Ethiopia. Determined to honor Kidest’s memory and continue her legacy of kindness, Elizabhet embarked on the journey of creating the foundation.

“The Kidy Foundation is a tribute to my late sister, Kidest, who embodied compassion and selflessness,” Elizabhet said. “Through this organization, we aim to extend Kidest’s kindness to others and prevent such tragedies from befalling more innocent lives.”

A poignant documentary, produced by Photo journalist Dawit Tibebu , chronicling the organization’s journey and the impact it has made, was premiered at the event. The emotional and thought-provoking film resonated deeply with the audience, shedding light on the devastating consequences of car accidents while also showcasing the foundation’s efforts to support victims and raise awareness about vehicle safety.

The Kidy Foundation’s tireless work and commitment to their cause were recognized and commended by Ethiopia’s representative at the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Hiwot Mossisa, who attended the event, along with a representative from the Ethiopian Embassy in Canada, Amin Abdulkadir. Both dignitaries expressed their admiration for the foundation’s dedication to mobilizing the diaspora community for such a noble cause.

“The efforts of the Kidy Foundation in supporting victims of car accidents and advocating for vehicle safety are truly commendable,” remarked the representative. “Their work not only helps those in need but also serves as an important catalyst for raising awareness and preventing future vehicle collisions in Ethiopia.”

Another notable highlight of the evening was the recognition of Liben Gebremikael, the Vice Chair of the Kidy Foundation’s board. Mr. Gebremikael, CEO of TAIBU Community Health Center and a highly respected figure in the community, had a street named after him in Toronto in recognition of his significant contributions to community health services in Ontario. He expressed gratitude for the volunteers and community members who have rallied behind the Kidy Foundation, making a difference in the lives of victims and their families.

The Kidy Foundation’s inaugural fundraiser event was a resounding success, not only in terms of the funds raised but also in uniting the community and spreading awareness about the critical issue of Vehicle collisions in Ethiopia.
