Tragedy Strikes Turkish Airlines Flight as Pilot Dies Mid-Flight
A Turkish Airlines flight en route from Seattle to Istanbul was forced to make an emergency landing in New York after the pilot tragically lost consciousness and passed away during the journey.
The plane, a Turkish Airlines flight, made the emergency landing at John F. Kennedy International Airport just before 6 a.m. following the sudden medical emergency involving 59-year-old Captain İlçehin Pehlivan. According to a statement by airline spokesperson Yahya Üstün, Captain Pehlivan lost consciousness mid-flight, and despite efforts from the onboard medical team, they were unable to revive him.
The co-pilot took control and safely landed the aircraft in New York. Turkish Airlines later confirmed the death, with officials noting that Pehlivan had passed a routine health check in March with no indications of any health concerns that could have prevented him from flying.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of our captain and extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, colleagues, and loved ones,” said Üstün in the statement.
According to Associated Press, Captain Pehlivan had been with Turkish Airlines since 2007.

“በካፒቴናችን ሞት በጣም አዝነናል እናም ለቤተሰቦቹ፣ የስራ ባልደረቦቹ እና ወዳጅ ዘመዶቻቸው መፅናናትን እንመኛለን” ሲሉ ዩስተን በመግለጫቸው ተናግረዋል።
