Community holds vigil for Ethiopian Canadian killed in Ethiopia

The Ethiopian community in Toronto gathered for a candlelight vigil to mourn after Michael Gebru, a 41 year old Ethiopian Canadian was reportedly killed in Ethiopia.
The gathering at the St. Teklehaimanot Ethiopian Orthodox church was filled with mixed but high emotions . Many were seen deeply weeping about the loss of what they described as a “gentle soul” wearing aT-shirt with an image of Micheal.
Michael, who won a jackpot of $10.6 milion in 2017 was reportedly killed in his home nation .Ethiopian police held two suspects related to his death .
Those who spoke to ethiofidel.com expressed their shock and disbelief about the death. some were angered by the attack they characterized as “vicious”.
The community remembers Michael as some one who cares for others and as kind hearted .
Global Affairs Canada confirmed his death .
The office states
“Our thoughts and sympathies are with the family of a Canadian citizen who died in Ethiopia. Consular services are being provided to the family.”
The late Micheal Gebru is known to have been helping people around him .
