Ethiopia’s top music composer and lyricist Elias Melka passed away in Addis Ababa . Elais 42 has been consistently composing one of the country’s top melodies .
He composed for Ethiopia’s legendery and contemporary musicians Mahmoud Ahmed, Ster Aweke, Teddy Afro, Gossaye Tesfaye, Abush Zeleke,Zeritu Kebede and others .
Educated in music from the famous Yared Music University in Addis, Elias has been an industrious composer who worked on hundreds of lyrics and melodies in Ethiopia .
Ethiopians around the world reacted to his death. A well known Dj in Ethiopia DjPhat su said Elias was a kind person in this selfish world ” He is gone now but survived by lots of love, lots of memories and melodies. ” says Phat Su.
Several musicians, journalists and fans have been pouring their condolences on social media . Berhanu Digafe , a famous radio show host in Addis wrote on his Facebook page ” Elias lived a short live but he will be remembered forever . He is one of a kind and a spice of life. “
similarily the deputy Mayor of Addis Ababa Takele Umma sent his condolences to all the fans of Elias Melka . Takele says ” Elias is one of the artists that our generation remembers with pride and he is one of the people who gave his life for art”.
It was reported that the late composer Elias Melka was receiving treatment for kideny and diabetes complications.
