Canada’s Sports commentator fired after controversial comments on Immigrants

A famous Canadian Ice hockey commentator Don Cherry has been fired after he made controversial remarks about immigrants in relation to celebrating Remembrance day. Don cherry complained on TV that he did not see a lot of newcomers wearing the popyes during Remembrance day that happens on November 11 every year .

sportnet Tv station says in a statement Don Cherry’s remarks are “divisive and do not represent our values” . The station announced that it has to cut its ties with the commentator .

The following was the controversial statement of the commentator “At least you can pay a couple bucks for a poppy,

You people… you love our way of life, you love our milk and honey, at least you can pay a couple bucks for a poppy or something like that,” Cherry said.

“These guys paid for your way of life that you enjoy in Canada, these guys paid the biggest price.”

Cherry’s statements were heavily criticized as racist rants . CBC reported that Don Cherry has been considered as symbol of Hockey night Canada for the past 40 years.
