The Ethiopian origin Canadian artist Abel Tesfaye donated $500K to various organizations working to respond to the world wide call for Black Lives Matter ( BLM) .
Abel Tesfaye A.K.A The weeknd announced his donations on his Instagram page and encourages others to donate for the cause of Black Lives Matter.
” To my fellow respected industry partners and execs- no one profits off of black music more than the labels and streaming services. I gave yesterday and I urge you to go big and public with yours this week. It would mean the world to me and the community if you can join us ” wrote The Weeknd
The Weeknd donated $200,000 for Black Lives Matter Global Network and $200,000 to the Know your rights campaign and also made contributions of $100,000 to National Bail out Program .
Black Lives Matter Protests have been intensified in recent weeks after the brutal killing of a Black Man, George Floyed in Minneapolis .
