The city council of Washington DC approved “Little Ethiopia ” area in the city.

ትንሿ ኢትዮጵያ” ለሚባለው አካባቢ የተሰጠው ስያሜ ህጋዊ አውቅና ማግኘቱን በአሜሪካ የኢትዮጵያ አምባሳደር አቶ ፍፁም አረጋ አስታውቀዋል።
In an unanimous vote , members of the Washington D.C. council have approved the “Little Ethiopia” Ceremonial Resolution.
Ethiopian ambassador to the US, Fitsum Arega announced the desigination of The 9th and U Street business corridor located in the Shaw neighborhood in Washington DC as “Little Ethiopia”.
Dc council member Brandon T tweeted that Ethiopia is a symbol of freedom, dignity and respect for African countries .
Ambassador fitsum thanked the Mayor of D.C. Muriel Bowser and the council members as well as the Ethiopian American business community .
An estimated 500,000 Ethiopians and Ethiopian origins live in D.C.
Amharic is one of the official languages in the city.
There were similar efforts to name Danforth and Greenwood area of Toronto as little Ethiopia.
