Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh passed away.

Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh and husband of Queen Elizabeth, died today at 99.

Buckingham Palace confirmed the death of the longest serving royal consort in British history .

A statement posted on the official Facebook page of the Royal family reads “

His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.

The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss.

According to CBC news, the prince conducted more than 22,000 solo engagements and made 5,500 speeches.

He was married to Queen Elizabeth in 1947. The Queen calls Philip “her strength and stay”.
