Araya Mengesha’s Short film DEFUND Featured on Toronto International Film Festival

A short film written and directed by Araya Mengesha , a Toronto born film maker has been featured at the Toronto International Film Festival .

Araya told Canadian Film Center (CFC) that DEFUND is a short film co- written directed/produced/starring Khadijah Roberts- Abdullah and himself. The film is about the daily lives of two twins living together during the COVID-19 Pandemic. The film shows the character’s reaction to the pandemic life and black lives matter movements during the summer of 2020.

For Araya activism and art are intertwined . He used his film DEFUND to enrich the conversation around Black Lives Matter and other important issues to communities in Canada .

Araya’s directorial debut, DEFUND made its world Premier this week at the Toronto International Film Festival ad has been screened at the festival.

Araya has been a hit performer on Netflixe’s Tiny Pretty Things Anne with an E and other shows .
