The City of Toronto is scrapping the overdue fines at Toronto public libraries for all users .

CTV news reported that the city is eliminating overdue fines for library users to remove barriers for access experienced by low income families.
Mayor John Tory said that the overdue fees have been pausing “significant barrier” to residents in low income neighbourhoods specifically from racialized and lower income communities.
The city council that approves the removal of late fees in public libraries allocated $ 500,000 in the 2022 budget.
