Famous Ethiopian comedian and media personality Eshetu Melesse raised $1.5 million from a live YouTube and GO fund me fundraiser .
The proceeds will go towards the building of a future Ethiopian Orthodox church monastery in Northern California.
His fellow Ethiopians poured donations towards the cause with in few hours helping Eshetu surpass his original goal of raising $1 million.
The construction of the monastery is estimated to cost $8.2 million.
