Cuso International Hosts The international Day of the Girl in Toronto

Globally, 1 in 3 girls denied secondary education and one million girls are forced in to marriage every year.

These facts were presented at an event held in Toronto to celebrate International day of the girl.  Cuso International’s Community Engagement and Outreach Coordinator Tina Sweeney pointed challenged the crowd to contribute these grim realities of girls around the world.

Tina mentioned Cuso international is actively working in developing countries including Ethiopia to bring about a comprehensive change in the lives of women and girls.

An Ethiopian photo journalist Dawit Tibebu showcased a photo exhibit following the life of “Sinkinesh’’, a woman that was  faced with challenges due to poor maternal health in Ethiopia . Dawit said he is passionate about changing the social inequalities and introduce the culture of his home country.

A passionate spoken word artist, Britta B, also presented her poems that reflect on women’s rights and empowerment.

Various organizations including Oiko Credit and OCIC introduced their programming as they relate to Girls rights .
