International Development Organizations Unite in Toronto to Showcase Volunteer Opportunities Abroad

Cuso International Leads Event Featuring the Volunteer Cooperation Program.

In a bid to connect Canadians with meaningful international volunteering opportunities, Cuso International spearheaded a Volunteering Abroad Happy Hour event at the Center for Social Innovation in downtown Toronto. The event, which took place on Friday November 24,2023 saw the participation of four other prominent international development organizations, cooperative Development Foundation of Canada, World University Services of Canada, Veterinarians With out Boarder and Youth Challenge international.

The gathering provided a platform for organizations to demonstrate various volunteer opportunities available through the Volunteer Cooperation Program (VCP).

Tina Sweeney, Senior Officer, Outreach and Partnership at Cuso, emphasized the event’s purpose to highlight international volunteer opportunities for Canadians keen on making a positive impact globally.

The event’s invitation, titled “6 to 8 Volunteering Abroad Happy Hour,” encouraged global citizens to explore diverse volunteering possibilities that transcend borders. Held at the Centre for Social Innovation on 192 Spadina Ave., the gathering attracted individuals passionate about education, healthcare, environmental conservation, and refugee and migration issues.

During the event, representatives from Cuso International, along with the four other international development organizations, elaborated on the various projects and initiatives available for prospective volunteers. Attendees had the opportunity to engage with experts and learn about how they could contribute to global causes.

The spotlight of the evening was on the Volunteer Cooperation Program (VCP), a platform that facilitates skilled Canadians and permanent residents in participating in Canada’s international development assistance efforts.

Tina Sweeney expressed her enthusiasm for the event, stating, “We are thrilled to be back in Toronto for the 6 to 8 Volunteering Abroad Happy Hour. This is a unique opportunity for Canadians to explore volunteering experiences that not only align with their passions but also contribute to positive change around the world.”

The Volunteering Abroad Happy Hour aimed to inspire individuals to get involved in future engagements, encouraging them to actively participate in international volunteering and contribute to Canada’s global development efforts. As the event concluded, attendees left with a newfound understanding of the impactful opportunities awaiting them beyond borders.

Established 62 years ago, Cuso international has been sending international volunteers to Ethiopia through its programs in various regions in the country.
